Kong King of the Apes was a wasted opportunity

Kong King of the Apes was a wasted opportunity
Looking back on..

I’ve been in the mood and writing about King Kong and was surprised to see a King Kong listing on Netflix a while back for a new show since I hadn’t heard anything about it but I was definitely curious and added it to my list so Netflix would remind me when it finally came out. And so it did to little noise and mostly went by unnoticed. But with not only one but a second season how is the show and is it worth the time? Netflix has done some amazing shows but also some pretty terrible ones, at least in the kids department so what does Kong: King of the Apes get to be?

I first tried to watch it but I quickly saw that I wasn’t the target audience and only made it about 20 minutes into the pilot which is an hour and 20 minutes or the length of old kids movies. Normally these pilot “movies” just take the other episodes and stitch them together lowering the “episode” count of the season like in Voltron but here we see that it’s still a 13 episode season with no episodes cut because of the length of the pilot. It took me until the hype of the new movie to finally check out the show again. I’ll be using the concept artwork for the article since they’re so beautiful yet sadly they don’t really represent the show.

Myth Explorer: The Quest for King Kong Blair witch style-documentary

Myth Explorer: The Quest for King Kong Blair witch style-documentary
Looking back on..

Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventures got a new King Kong ride in 2016, we won’t be talking about because there’s something far more interesting that came to existence because of it and it wasn’t the ride. In order to promote the new ride they made a viral website and web series called Myth Explorer which is a spoof on all those UFO / Cryptozoology shows and it was promoted on channels like Syfy and NBC.

Like the King Kong Skull Island Mockumentary that I talked about earlier they make it as if Skull Island is a real thing. Sadly the website MythExplorer.com is no longer live and because it was flash heavy archive.org doesn’t really help us out either but on the website you had an about page, a blog and of course the episodes. I personally have always loved viral websites and it’s always sad when they are re-tooled or just taken offline.

Skull Island: A Natural History Documentary King Kong + Son of Kong hoax

Skull Island: A Natural History Documentary King Kong + Son of Kong hoax
Secret Movie

King Kong seems to be making a nice comeback and while I have a few reservations on the current take, it’s still nice to see Kong be King once again. To celebrate his return to glory we’ll be taking a small detour to Skull Island for a couple of days. Let’s start off with a mockumentary that was made for Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

Peter Jackson really loves the original King Kong movie and it was a huge inspiration for him. Regardless of what you think of his film, you can’t deny that he has a pasion for the character. One of the bonus features on the DVD when it came out was a “documentary” of Skull Island, it began with a documentary of 1930’s New York and the Great Depression and later you had a documentary on Skull Island. It’s really well done and gives us a look at what an awesome island Skull Island is and expands on it, it’s worth a look:

Godzilla’s Hanna-Barbera cartoon is upsettingly odd

Godzilla’s Hanna-Barbera cartoon is upsettingly odd
Looking back on..

Godzilla had a cartoon made in the late 70’s by Hanna-Barbera and well it’s umm..something. As a kid I loved Godzilla but whenever re-runs of this show aired on Cartoon Network I found it difficult to sit through. The show seems to have been made by people who didn’t know what Godzilla was and just used what they thought he was and went along with it. The characters or setting is never really explained you just know that you have some people on a ship who live with this creature called Godzooki that encounter monsters but Godzilla helps them out. Apparently the series bible explains this Godzooky, who is Godzilla’s nephew and he was in danger but the crew of the Calico saved his life and Godzilla protects the crew as a reward.

Making Godzilla Scary Again

Making Godzilla Scary Again
Video Classic

I was seldom excited about the new Toho Godzilla film when it was announced last December; I mean we already had a Godzilla movie recently and even with this one coming from Japan but then I saw the trailer 6 months ago which changed my mind. I had already seen the Godzilla design from the leaks and I used to have mixed feelings about it but after watching the first teaser trailer I was sold.

Crisis on infinite Continuity, The problem with..

So as I started with Marvel and DC but now let’s go over the other Cinematic Universes currently in development. As I mentioned before the concept of a Shared Universe is nothing new however it’s become popular thanks to the way Marvel Studios had hit after hit in their Cinematic Universe. I won’t look at the history of shared universes as that would likely mean going back to Homer’s The Iliad and Odyssey but we’ll at least give a brief glimpse as we see the new Cinematic Universes previous history in a shared Universe.
