Captain Tsubasa Anime History, Timeline & Continuity
Looking back on..

I am not a fan of football soccer or team sports for that matter and because of that I don’t really care about the World Cup comes even if the mood around me feels like it’s the Olympics. But I still fell in love with this cartoon that was about “futbol”, so while some got the bland cartoon The Hurricanes a lot of the world got Captain Tsubasa, Super Campeones, Oliver y Benji, Die tollen Fussballstars or whatever your country called it we were in for a treat and if you have never watched it the you really need to check this anime out. So let’s take a look back at the story, continuity and timeline of the show.

The Land Before Time Trilogy through adult eyes

The Land Before Time Trilogy through adult eyes
Looking back on..

The Land Before Time franchise began with a single movie and it wasn’t until a few years later that they decided to make it into a franchise releasing movies pretty much every year. We’re going to take a look at back at all the movies beginning with the first The Land Before Time Trilogy. This means the world had not been established yet and they were still playing around with what the universe would become as well as the movies the original target audience grew up with.

The Land Before Time

When you have a film with names like Don Bluth, Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas attached you know you had something special. This movie was a favorite of mine as a kid and I would rent it constantly from the video store, it was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I didn’t know why but I knew it was better than most other stuff I liked. I re-watched it finally about 2 years ago to see how it held up and I knew I would like it but I fell in love with the movie all over again. Everything is just so well crafted and it truly is a classic movie that deserves all the praise it gets.

The Problem With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The Problem With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
The problem with..

I enjoyed Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom quite a bit as I mentioned in my spoiler free article of the movie premiere, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any problems with the movie. As with every Jurassic Park sequel there are just some choices that were made that I’m not too thrilled about. These choices hurt the movie and keep me up at night like the threat of an Indoraptor under the bed. With that said these complaints are not big enough for me for me to dislike the movie but they’re definitely annoyances. I’ll discuss the elements of the movie so there’ll be some spoilers so be aware. The movie is very much its own thing, it does have some original Jurassic Park call backs, specifically from the kitchen scene which shouldn’t have been there but they work fine and the tone might feel a bit like The Lost World at first but it’s its own movie with its own take, but let’s talk about the problems with Fallen Kingdom..

Unlike what some of the trailers led us to believe, Isla Nublar doesn’t get to see much action, the whole rescue mission is over faster than you realize. The Volcano erupts as soon as they get there and some might be happy with that but I wouldn’t have minded another The Lost World take and do right what the previous time they got wrong. It was very sad to see the island get destroyed by the volcano, I’m not sure if it was shot very well or if also the recent volcano eruptions in Hawaii and Guatemala helped this feel closer to home. Seeing all the dinosaurs die was more depressing than you would think some CG / animatronic recreations of extinct animals would be. I do love the second setting in the mansion which gave us such cool visuals so at least it all wasn’t done to waste, it was refreshing as it’s not something we had seen before even if I prefer the jungle setting.

Disney’s Dinosaur 2000 & Walking with Dinosaurs 2013 Films are the same movie

Disney’s Dinosaur 2000 & Walking with Dinosaurs 2013 Films are the same movie
Looking back on..

In the beginning of the millennium Disney had a big movie coming up called only Dinosaur, a rather vague name which is why it’s more commonly known as Dinosaur 2000 nowadays. You have to have some big confidence if you name your movie something as generic as that and Disney expected it to be a hit. Walking with Dinosaurs was a huge hit when it came to Documentaries so a movie based on so a lot was expected from this release. Both movies used a mix of live action shots with CG and both were disappointments, but let’s take a look at these overlooked gems and see other coincidences these two movies had.

We’ll begin with the older of these entries which is Disney’s Dinosaur not to be confused with Henson’s Dinosaurs which I guess is also Disney’s. But as I mentioned the combination of shooting in real life locations and adding the CG to those scenes really brought a lot of realism to the movie. Despite having CG from 2000, it’s still nice and back then there was hardly many movies with better CG as it was simply impressive.

The plot is a bit of a rip off of the Land before time but as much as it may be, the characters are all different enough that it’s just another journey through the same tragedy. You wouldn’t call two titanic movies a rip off just because they take place during the sinking of it right? It might not hit all the highs that the Land Before Time does but it’s definitely good enough.

Is The Tick Amazon Prime Spoon enough?

Is The Tick Amazon Prime Spoon enough?
Looking back on..

The Tick was a show that took me a while to get but when it finally clicked I realized I had been missing out. The first live action show and animated series were both great in their own way so when Amazon announced a new show for their Prime Video service I was pretty excited and hoped they wouldn’t mess it up. So how is this Tick series revival? A bit of a mixed bag.

It should be noted the pilot episode came out in 2016, the first part of season 1 which has one storyline in 2017 and 2018 saw the release of the second story arc of season 1. I don’t understand the route they decided to take this show on, it’s still a parody I guess.. they have the budget to have fight scenes and whatnot.. it’s still an adult show.. It’s just not funny, the writing is terrible and boring, it doesn’t seem to know that it’s a parody at times acting a bit too serious. IT had the potential of outdoing both series and yet I was really disappointed after the first few episodes.

ReBoot: The Guardian Code – the VR Power Rangers

ReBoot: The Guardian Code – the VR Power Rangers
Looking back on..

After many years ReBoot finally got a new show in the form of Reboot: The Guardian Code which mixes live action with CG as they go inside the machines with Virtual Reality like devices. Fans were not very happy but since I am a big fan of shows that deal with people going into digital worlds à la Tron, I didn’t mind at all. After watching it I realized that it’s a show with potential and fans should definitely give it a shot.

For die-hard fans of the original show will find a very different show and I don’t really know why exactly they went with the ReBoot brand if they were planning something so different as most of the time it just doesn’t feels anything like it. We do get Megabyte as a villain and he’s great and just as you remember him, but he’s the only constant link to the old show. However I’d say that his style clashes a bit with the rest of the show so it doesn’t help the new show either. We do get a few references to the old show here and there but they’re small Easter eggs for fans more than anything. There is indeed one episode that deals and feels exactly like the old show we watched and it’s a blast. The good news is I feel like we’ll end up getting more and more of this type of episodes down the line, I doubt they’ve forgotten just remember how much the old show changed.

Reboot The Show is a mainframe classic CG show

Reboot The Show is a mainframe classic CG show
Looking back on..

Reboot was the first Computer Generated (CG) show we ever got by Mainframe / Rainmaker Entertainment and it had a bit of a weird history. Coming out even before Toy Story, the show dealt with life inside a computer so you get all these great 90s tech lingo in the actual show and how life is inside a computer system. Tech was still rather new for most people so many concepts went over people’s head. The show also changed quite a bit over the course of the series and got a huge fandom behind it. The show is continued with Reboot: The Last Guardian but we begin here with the original show.

The first season is a rather safe animated show from the 90s with the setting of them being in a computer world but there’s not much here, as a kid I wasn’t a huge fan of the show because it just wasn’t that exciting and the character designs looked weird. It really isn’t that bad, but it doesn’t have enough to hook you, one thing that is rather interesting is the concept that the “user” plays games and when they do the characters get to go inside those worlds. This gives them an excuse to change the setting to a bunch of weird different things including parodies of many movies and tv shows.
