They tell you not to judge a book by its cover but in the case of Goosebumps it was the cover that completely sold the books to every kid. The stories were never actually all that scary but many of its creatures were as iconic as any other horror icons like Jason or Freddy. This is my little tribute to the Goosebumps franchise.

It’s October and the Halloween season is the perfect time to talk about Goosebumps, or Chaire de poule (literally chicken skin) as it’s known in francophone regions. And that’s exactly what I want to talk about the different editions that the French versions that this book series got in both France and in Quebec Canada.
The French Edition was published and translated by Bayard Poche and printed 74 books. The logo is mostly the same slime font only with the Chair de poule name while the covers are entirely different.
They are worse and nowhere near as iconic as the Tim Jacobus’ covers but they do succeed in looking far creepier and scarier that you’d expect them in another book series like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Spawn was huge and counting how big he was, his movie and how well the figures were selling in the 90s it’s odd that it didn’t get a cartoon like other lesser known indie comics like Ultraforce did. But we did get an animated show on HBO simply called Todd McFarlane’s Spawn aimed at an adults and taking those two factors into play it’s no wonder a lot of us didn’t even know this show existed so let’s take a look back at the show that is as good as Batman: The Animated Series.
The show only lasted 18 episodes spread across three 6 episode seasons and yet it did more in its first season than most shows do in their entire run. The show is dark, and not only in tone but also in colors and that helps the bleak mood the show is aiming for really well. The origin of the hero is told perfectly and the supporting characters are all usually great. I mean who doesn’t love Sam and Twitch, two awesome fictional detectives in an already crowded space.

Zeo aired with a cliffhanger that Lord Zedd and Rita would be back but instead we got this new take on Power Rangers with the now confirmed yearly themes. For this year we got Turbo and I never liked cars as a kid so this was not something I was excited about when I saw the posters that the new Power Rangers movie had cars. But it was crazy, we were getting a new Power Rangers movie and the show would continue based on it so I wanted to watch it even if I never got the chance as a kid. So let’s take a look back at the movie which is the pilot for the rest of the season and then the actual season of Turbo.
Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie
It’s bad, Turbo: a power rangers movie is a snoozefest. I first watched it when I got back into Power Rangers and I tried to force myself into liking it but it never worked out. I know in the fandom it’s well liked and preferred by many over MMPR:TM, which to me is nuts. It feels like a really boring 5 part episode, it’s high budget when compared to the TV show since you get jet skis, horses and a ship but when compared to Hollywood movies or even Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie it’s very low budget. With the title “A Power Rangers Movie”, it makes me wonder if they were planning on making these smaller budget movies for every season but once they saw how badly it did they scrapped that idea. Just imagine a world with Space: A Power Rangers movie, but at the very least we did get Kimberly: A Power Rangers Movie unofficially.

Over the past 6 weeks I took a course online in Coursera which is a site with plenty of MOOC courses you can take. For those unfamiliar it’s just basically a fancy acronym (Massive Open Online Courses) for an online course. The course is by l’École Polytechnique which is an important university in France. My knowledge of Sam and Max only came from an Easter egg found on Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire but when I found out there was an animated show on Fox Kids that many people don’t know much about I decided to give it a shot and check it out. Now I have never played any of the Lucasarts or Telltale video games or know anything of the characters personalities or universe so when I watched it I went in blank.

My first true love were dinosaurs before corporate multinationals gave me heavily marketed action figures to buy. My love for franchises like Mighty Max, Power Rangers, Turok, Jurassic Park, etc. all started because of they involved dinosaurs which I was already crazy over. I’m glad to say that to this day dinosaurs are still something I’m quite interested in even if I no longer want to be a paleontologist or care to know all the dinosaur names/facts. Here is a collection of all the tributes/articles I’ve written to my Dino friends.
