I can’t say I normally do a tribute article about a random celebrity I don’t really know and that didn’t make the WWE Top Diva list but in theme of Wrestlemania Weekend it seemed appropriate to dedicate today’s #FrenchFriday post to Maryse Mizanin Ouellet. Maryse performed on WWE and being a French Canadian constantly used her French in random skits and even her entrance theme featured a French song whose lyrics you’ll find below. So yeah, let’s use this Professional Wrestling athlete as a way to practice French through her random antics and finding out a bit more of her wrestling career.
Her gimmick seems to be that she will use French from time to time to communicate which causes comfusion and leads to entertaining skits. Here you can see a compilation of some of her backstage segments and other times she used French and trying to understand what she says can either be somewhat easy or extremely difficult depending on the segment as sometimes it’s meant to be somewhat understood using simple sentences and at other times it’s only meant to be confusing so she’ll try to speak quickly.
The WWE definitely took notice of this and used her to promote the brand or events whenever they hit Francophone speaking territory. Here you have an interview for a tv show where she talks about her career. She did other interviews and was also used to help the launch of the WWE Network and how it’s available in French.
You can find plenty of interviews that were done for her in French like this radio interview or even exclusive videos for French speakers like this one or this one. Not to mention plenty of televised ones as well like these two with Kurt Angle.
And speaking French is not easy as we can see in this segment of The Miz trying to speak French, understanding random conversations or just to generate heel heat to be booed by the fans.
She was also featured in the 2007 Playboy Girls of Canada Calendar and she did some nude photo-shoots also in 2010 not to mention being featured in many other magazines., here is an interview of how she felt being a playmate. You can view here that same video with the translated dialog if you have any problems understanding it but the audio quality is low.
The way to sneak in a song in the article is by having the Titantron / theme music video which she enters the ring in which is better than most WWE Divas get and you can find the lyrics / Parole as well as the translation in English below but it’s a fairly easy song to understand. She mostly manages wrestlers now but back in the day she did win the Diva’s Championship twice which is the equivalent of the WWE Women’s title and had French themed signature moves as well as Finishing moves
French Kiss (Snap DDT, with theatrics)
French TKO (Heel kick, to the back of the opponent’s head)
French Pain (Camel clutch)
To finalize now that we know this new superstar wrestler that at least slipped through here is a random tribute video:
