The 5 Games That Nintendo Needs To Bring To Mobile
Gaming Again

Nintendo has been releasing mobile games for a few years now with some being better than others but in general we can agree that they haven’t had the best track record in choosing what franchises they should move to mobile or adapting them to the market. While people think of Nintendo’s biggest franchises to be … Read More “The 5 Games That Nintendo Needs To Bring To Mobile” »

Pokemon Go after the fad

Pokemon Go after the fad
Miscellaneous

It’s been a few years since Pokemon Go originally launched in 2016 so I’m definitely late in writing about this game that even Vince McMahon was playing and catching ghost Pokemon at the Gym. But while I quickly realized that Pokemon Go wasn’t for me when it came out I felt forced to play it once I knew Pokemon Let’s Go was going to allow trading from the mobile game and even before anything was announced I knew there would be exclusive stuff if you did and decided to start playing as soon as Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee were revealed.

I remember very well the announcement during the Pokemon 20 celebration that they even got a Superbowl ad for it to build hype to what would eventually become Pokemon Go. Once they showed what it was I was just not all that interested in some AR game and didn’t think much of it. Once it started being released and only a few people were playing it I decided to check it out and downloaded the APK and started the game. I could catch any of the starter Pokemon and of course I went with my turtle Squirtle and it was cute enough, walked around found another Pokemon and caught it. It had been fun and cute but I was done with the game and uninstalled it since I couldn’t see myself spending much more time on it.

Nintendo’s adopted JRPG Dragalia Lost deserves a console game

Nintendo’s adopted JRPG Dragalia Lost deserves a console game
Gaming Again

I was hyped for Dragalia Lost since Nintendo casually mentioned it with their new partnership with Cygames and upcoming mobile games and was hoping it’d come out soon to the west. Then announcement came and went and not many people seemed to remember and you couldn’t really find information, luckily we did get a Nintendo Direct and a more formal announcement around the original time it was going to come out. Dragons, anime characters, waifus, action RPGs? These are things I used to love but don’t really pay much attention to anymore but this seemed like the video game to go back to those times.

I’m not familiar with Granblue or any other character gatcha games unless you count Fire Emblem Heroes when it comes to mobile games so this is pretty much my first experience with a game like this. I finished the available chapters and have played in the three different limited events so far and given it enough time to be able to give a better opinion of what I think about it. When I first downloaded it I absolutely loved it and couldn’t get enough of it while now I am a bit tired of it and while I still love that something like this exists, I just feel it requires way too much time which I don’t have and sooner rather than later I’ll be giving up on it because of it I still have logged plenty of hours in it and had a lot of fun so take that into consideration. But now I want to talk about the things that I like and the things that I do not.

Every Animal Crossing App made by Nintendo

Every Animal Crossing App made by Nintendo
Gaming Again

Animal Crossing of all series has actually gotten a few different Apps made for it unlike most other franchises and not all of these are very well known. Before some of these fade to obscurity I thought I’d talk a little about the different apps the franchise has gotten, now this won’t include spin-off games or stuff like the stickers in the Line App which is what the featured image is from. I think Animal Crossing is a series that could have some useful apps but sadly we haven’t really gotten that many great ones.

Fist we have the Animal Crossing Clock on the DSi shop but was also readily available on the 3DS eshop for $2. I was ready for anything Animal Crossing but sadly this isn’t it. Having a clock on a system that already has a built in clock is rather pointless but what makes it worse is that this app has to be running for it to work as it can’t run on the background. There goes the function for alarm clock out the window. I think a lot of detail could’ve also been put into the app to make it feel more like Animal Crossing and while it lets you change the town tune among other small details it doesn’t have enough in it to make it feel special like having the themes for the hours or changing seasons etc. An Animal Crossing clock App could be useful but just not in this form factor sadly.

Animal Crossing the Anime Movie understands the game

Animal Forest: Theater Version Animal Crossing: The Movie

After Pokemon hit it big and its anime was very successful it seemed like Nintendo tried to see if other of their franchises would benefit from having an anime to mixed response. They kind of stopped that but Animal Crossing of all games was one that at least was able to get a movie in December 2006 called Animal Forest: Theater Version (Gekijōban Dōbutsu no Mori). Animal Crossing is one of those games that is hard to describe why it’s fun since you’re doing so many chores but when you actually play it you realize what makes the game special. A bold choice to make an cartoon out of a game based on doing daily tasks but would it transfer well as an anime without compromising the spirit that it’s based off? It totally is and let’s take a look back on this not very well known gem.

The movie is based specifically on the Animal Crossing Wild World games on the DS and there are plenty scenes that deal with things introduced in that game but pretty much any fan of Animal Crossing games past and future would understand the movie even without playing the DS game. As mentioned the game is based about daily life and doing chores, helping friends, going on an adventure, doing jobs to get money to pay off your loans and finding things on the island. It’s a lot more fun when you play it than when you read about what it is and the movie is extremely faithful to the source material and yet it isn’t a boring movie either. I don’t know how they did it but they were able to do all these mundane chores into an interesting way of showing them with an on going story through out the movie.

Rise of the TMNT x Splatoon Crossover Splatfest

Rise of the TMNT x Splatoon Crossover Splatfest
Continuity on Infinite Earths

The Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and Splatoon had a crossover….of sorts in May 2018 when they had a special Splatfest to promote Rise of the TMNT. For those unfamiliar it’s a small tournament that has two sides battle out over a personal choice like Hot Dogs or Hamburgers. This sounds a bit dumb on text but somehow it is something you have to experience to see why it’s a lot of fun. Everyone gets so much into it and has all these cool catchphrases and drawings that add to the mood.
Marina Pearl

This was indeed a special Splatfest since normally they don’t do licensed properties but also it lasted 3 weeks as it put up Raph vs Leo the first week, Mikey vs Donnie for the second, and for the final the winner of both first rounds. Raphael ended up winning the first round and I lost since I had been representing Leonardo while on the second round I was on the winning side by representing Donatello. Finally on the final round with Raphael vs Donatello I chose Raph and lost alongside him as Donatello won the tournament of best turtle.
