It’s been difficult trying to find a Halloween themed French Friday post since Halloween is not really popular in France. However I was able to find some french halloween songs. The songs were all made for french learners since there appears to be no real halloween songs but that doesn’t mean they’re bad, in fact I would add them to any halloween playlist. Since they’re for people learning French they’re easy to follow, include lyrics and a great way to learn spooky vocabulary, check them out. If want more I made a new halloween playlist again here.

Animaniacs was a great cartoon in the 90s which also had a ton of educational songs through out it which were fun since they were so catchy. Luckily they were translated in various languages including French and for anyone trying to learn french like me they are perfect since they get to teach you a lot of vocabulary in a really fun way, you’ll also find th lyrics of these songs as well as translations to help you follow along.

The first video is just the opening of the Animaniacs song which most of us know by heart so it’s an easy one to practice and spot the things we know as well as some of the changes. Then we have the countries of the world in French, it’s worth noting that some of the countries in the song have since seized to exist and finally a song about the universe which would make Carl Sagan proud.

For today’s French Friday I thought I’d give a quick update on how I’ve been feeling about the project and it’s not good. Since the last update things have only taken a turn for the worse as I haven’t felt this unmotivated in a long time to continue learning french, not to dissimilar from the last time I quit.

The Simpsons have always taken shots at the French so I thought it’d be neat to compile a few clips from various Simpsons episodes and share them. I’ve always wondered how the French translate these jokes, obviously the jokes are tongue in cheek. From the time that Bart learns to speak French to the time the Simpsons all travel to France.

Reading tweets in French can really be helpful in the learning progress, or at least that’s what I’ve been able to tell with me personally. It helps that there is a built in translator to help you out when you don’t understand so you can just click when you’re overwhelmed by a tweet. I already posted about some tweeter accounts to follow but I was asked to post more so here are other ones that I personally follow and have been for at least a few months.

Just like last time I will divide the accounts into three sections: Grammar, News and Fun. Grammar, being essential giving you mostly tips, quizes or infogrpahics. News, which are accounts that give out local or world news. Fun, mostly accounts that tweet cool stuff that I find cool in french.

French Teacher Experiences: The Importance of a Professor

Learning a language without a teacher can be extremely difficult; now I don’t doubt that there are people who can do it but not everyone is autodidact and that’s alright. While I can teach myself many things through the internet I do feel a teacher has helped me improve my French and force me to memorize and learn stuff that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I will start my next semester of French next week so I thought I’d take a look back at my previous experiences with teachers.

Having a good teacher is extremely important and that goes in a lot of ways. You don’t only need a teacher that knows their stuff but that also knows how to teach and likes doing what she is doing. No matter how excited you are to learn a language a teacher with a bad attitude can take all of that joy away until you no longer want to continue. In the same way if the teacher is good at their job they will get you excited to learn more even if they’re a very strict.
