I was pretty bummed I had missed the last Rammstein tour since it had been postponed what seemed forever because of the pandemic and when it finally happened I couldn’t go. Let’s face it the guys are getting older and I wanted to experience their live show at least one more time. In an odd turn of events I got the opportunity to go Till Lindemann’s New Years Live show. I was actually not even aware of his solo project but I decided to check it out and check the show out.
The solo project pretty much sounds like Rammstein in style, perhaps a bit more experimental but it’s not that different. He’s made a few albums including one in all english. There are definitely enough stand out tracks that I knew the show would be great although I set my expectations accordingly and didn’t want to think I’d get a Rammstein level show.
They changed the venue to a different one, which luckily was within walking distance of where I was staying. I guess because of the date they didn’t sell enough tickets and needed a smaller venue, which was actually a bonus for me since it ended up being a far more personal experience.
The show for the most part played the same songs as their tour but added an extra Spanish song on the encore that they had just released the week prior. The other shenanigans of the show I believe were not exclusive to this such as throwing cakes and fish at the audience. No fireworks but I guess it’s not Rammstein so no need. The band members are also entertaining which helped the vibe of the concert, it didn’t feel like it was just the Lindemann show.
As far as the new years celebration part, well I think it wasn’t planned very well as the champagne arrived a few minutes after midnight. Also Lindemann almost missed the countdown and we only got instead of a 10 count it was a 1 second count to midnight. Could’ve definitely been handled better but hey it was indeed a longer and more thought out experience than others in the tour so I’m grateful.
I started going to metal concerts again at the end of this past year with Cradle of Filth. And with this I welcome darkness into my new year.
