The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been lucky to have quite a few music videos and some particularly good ones, and we’re not talking about Coming out of the Shell trilogy or the musical TMNT VHS videos. We took at 3 actually good Ninja Turtle songs and their accompanying official music videos.
Partners In Kryme – Turtle Power HQ
The original TMNT 1990 movie got the best single song it could ever with Partner in Kryme’s Turtle Power. It completely feels the tone of the movie by feeling gritty but yet it’s still about flippin’ turtles and describing who they are introducing them to the audience. Raph is mentioned as the leader which eventually happened in Rise of the TMNT, looks like the lyrics weren’t wrong after all. It’s rare for a movie to get a song so right without feeling cheesy or bad, this is the right amount of everything, perhaps being an indie film helped it. It’s a shame this hip-hop due couldn’t do more since they really gave it all and succeeded with this licensed rap. Be sure to stay until the end of the video and watch Splinter face palm as he says “kids!”.
Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign – Shell Shocked feat Kill The Noise & Madsonik
For the 2014 TMNT Platinum Dunes we got a new music video by Juicy J, and while the movie might have been hated this music video really feels like the 2010’s version of the original. Doing as much as they can with this movie’s concept, of course they had a bigger budget but it didn’t feel overproduced or like they were just winging it. They decide to go for the concept of family which is a big theme in all Ninja Turtle incarnations. It’s clearly a song about the TMNT and not one of those vague songs with only one verse of the movie it was promoting. The fact that movies in the 2010s didn’t really get songs it’s a gem that we were not only able to get one but a great TMNT song.
Ice Cream Kitty Official Music Video TMNT | The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles “I.C.K”
From the fictional album Turtle Soup by Splinterscope Records we have ICK by the TMNT which while not an actual artist, it’s the only official music video from the 2012 show mostly sang by Greg Cipes who was Mikey in the show. In a way this music video is super trippy and feels like a huge tribute to the whole 2012 Nick TMNT show. Was this song a dream? Sure feels like it, and also sure feels like it was made with lots of love as a tribute video to the show with Michael Jackson Thriller references and soothing meows that makes it the best send of this show could have gotten. The turtles playing in the stage that hasn’t been done since Coming Out of the Shell and April kissing Donnie for all the shippers, what’s not to love with bonus Ice Cream Kitty scenes.
As you can see TMNT has had more than a few songs and music videos and surprisingly they have had a pretty good record. I’m sure we’ll take a look at other Ninja Turtle musical media that’s available, but these 3 really are the best to be featured in Music Match.
