Can you imagine The Office but with dinosaurs? I’m guessing that’s what the pitch was for Dinosaur Office was even though it’s nothing like that and it’s well I don’t know these are all my notes after watching it: nihilistic, annoying roar, 3d great, killing. So if we’re going to make it through this article I”m going to have to put some effort into it. Regardless of how they sold the show, thanks to CollegeHumor and Nintendo specifically this mini web series is remembered by plenty of people.
CollegeHumor decided to give this show a nice run of about 21 episodes or so an a total of about 30 mins worth of episodes. Nintendo was in the mix as well. In the early 3DS days, Nintendo wanted to show off the no glasses 3D screen capabilities and so they had video through their Nintendio Video app. There you could find episodes of Dinosaur Office every week or so and it was great, to be honest the 3D did give the little shorts a few more extra umphs that made them a lot of fun to watch. I’d go as far as to say the best way to view these shorts are in 3D.
But let’s get to the actual content of the show, and well there isn’t a lot of content there….but to be fair the shorts are usually about 2 minutes long so they don’t need a lot to make those 2 minutes entertaining. And the times that they aren’t well it’s usually over quickly. Although some shorts are indeed a bit on the boring side and those 2 minutes go slow, especially if you’re binge watching every episode at once. The format of the show was not meant for that.
As I mentioned in my notes the show is nihilistic, similar to the Henson’s Dinosaurs show the dinosarus constantly talk about being eaten or eating others. The shock value is there and it can be fun, in general lots of killing. The characters also talk in this really annoying voice and have these roars. It can be quite funny at times but other times it is just annoing, it depends on the short and how overused they do it. The office plots could’ve been fun but they’re barely ever used.
If you’re nostalgic for these, it’l be a fun trip memory lane for when these came out. I can’t say they’re all time classics but if you have no nostalgia an like dinosaurs it could be fun, divide it up in 3 10 minute binges and you’ll be entertained getting a couple of chuckles out of a few shorts per session.
