The Land Before Time Series series continued with Movies 7, 8 & 9
Looking back on..

By this point I had no idea these movies were still coming out and I’m guessing that no one else in my generation did either as we had moved on to bigger and better things such as pro wrestling. It also seems that it was a transitional period for the franchise as DVD was taking over, the production now became more digital and they also started to feel a bit embarrassed by the numbered sequels as they were not emphasized as much. For all these reasons they took a break of one year 1999 where they didn’t make a sequel which they had been doing since 1994.

The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire

This movie while a bit lackluster does bring some interesting things to the franchise, first of all we get to see a few flashbacks set during the time of the original movie and we see a little of what the adults were doing at that time. It also introduces two unique characters that while seemed to be the new bad guys of the movie turn out to be good guys and the twist about them is that it’s implied that they’re from another planet…so aliens educating dinosaurs! So a few new things to the franchise and overall another sequel that is mostly inoffensive.

The Land Before Time Sequels are a mixed bag
Looking back on..

Last time we took a look at the original The Land Before Time movie as well as its 2 first sequels but a trilogy of movies was not enough for them and they kept making more sequels. It was around this time when even I as a kid started to realize that they were releasing far too many movies and started building a backlog of Little Foot movies that i hadn’t seen. They became an annual series and today we’ll take a look back at sequels 4, 5 and 6. The fourth movie was the third and final movie by Roy Allen Smith while almost all the rest of the movies were made by director Charles Grosvenor.

The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists

This movie deals with a heard of Brachiosaurus that is migrating and arrives at the great valley alongside a small female brachiosaurus named Ali. The usual shenanigans with the group not wanting to accept her begin only for Little Foot’s Grandpa to become ill. Then they heard about this special flower that can revive him and they go for it. Along the way they meet an alligator and a bird who are the big bads in this story and of course all is well by the end of the story with the migrating dinosaurs leaving with Ali.

Netflix’s The Hollow surprised, later disappointed

Netflix’s The Hollow surprised, later disappointed
Looking back on..

Another Netflix show not on my radar that I randomly discovered on Netflix is The Hollow. A Canadian animated series described as science fantasy adventure mystery, oh my! It looked unique and decided to check it out since it’s only 13 episodes and I was in for a treat. The show is all kinds of different things and while never amazing it’s something special and a unique experience that is worth the time and a show I would’ve loved as a kid. The show is all kinds of things at once and it works for it more than it does against it. So let’s take a look back..

Kiss Me First A VR Drama

Kiss Me First A VR Drama
Looking back on..

It seems Netflix has a thing for virtual reality and I’m all in since I love what the technology could do and a big fan of the digital world trope. I had no idea what Kiss Me First was but I assumed it was something not for me. For some reason I read the synopsis for some reason and it seemed right up my alley since it dealt with VR, games and whatnot. I was cautious at first since I didn’t quite know what to expect but I was surprised as this show is nothing what you would expect since it mixes many different ideas and somehow it actually works and it didn’t affect the show at all.

I am not a fan of football soccer or team sports for that matter and because of that I don’t really care about the World Cup comes even if the mood around me feels like it’s the Olympics. But I still fell in love with this cartoon that was about “futbol”, so while some got the bland cartoon The Hurricanes a lot of the world got Captain Tsubasa, Super Campeones, Oliver y Benji, Die tollen Fussballstars or whatever your country called it we were in for a treat and if you have never watched it the you really need to check this anime out. So let’s take a look back at the story, continuity and timeline of the show.

The Land Before Time Trilogy through adult eyes

The Land Before Time Trilogy through adult eyes
Looking back on..

The Land Before Time franchise began with a single movie and it wasn’t until a few years later that they decided to make it into a franchise releasing movies pretty much every year. We’re going to take a look at back at all the movies beginning with the first The Land Before Time Trilogy. This means the world had not been established yet and they were still playing around with what the universe would become as well as the movies the original target audience grew up with.

The Land Before Time

When you have a film with names like Don Bluth, Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas attached you know you had something special. This movie was a favorite of mine as a kid and I would rent it constantly from the video store, it was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I didn’t know why but I knew it was better than most other stuff I liked. I re-watched it finally about 2 years ago to see how it held up and I knew I would like it but I fell in love with the movie all over again. Everything is just so well crafted and it truly is a classic movie that deserves all the praise it gets.

Disney’s Dinosaur 2000 & Walking with Dinosaurs 2013 Films are the same movie

Disney’s Dinosaur 2000 & Walking with Dinosaurs 2013 Films are the same movie
Looking back on..

In the beginning of the millennium Disney had a big movie coming up called only Dinosaur, a rather vague name which is why it’s more commonly known as Dinosaur 2000 nowadays. You have to have some big confidence if you name your movie something as generic as that and Disney expected it to be a hit. Walking with Dinosaurs was a huge hit when it came to Documentaries so a movie based on so a lot was expected from this release. Both movies used a mix of live action shots with CG and both were disappointments, but let’s take a look at these overlooked gems and see other coincidences these two movies had.

We’ll begin with the older of these entries which is Disney’s Dinosaur not to be confused with Henson’s Dinosaurs which I guess is also Disney’s. But as I mentioned the combination of shooting in real life locations and adding the CG to those scenes really brought a lot of realism to the movie. Despite having CG from 2000, it’s still nice and back then there was hardly many movies with better CG as it was simply impressive.

The plot is a bit of a rip off of the Land before time but as much as it may be, the characters are all different enough that it’s just another journey through the same tragedy. You wouldn’t call two titanic movies a rip off just because they take place during the sinking of it right? It might not hit all the highs that the Land Before Time does but it’s definitely good enough.
