Pokemon can be very versatile in how it is used, we’ve seen the brand used in so many ways and succeeding in many and probably failing in even more different ways as not everything fits Pokemon, but they try and many times they hit into something special Pokemon Concierge was randomly announced one day and forgotten the next, but it’s something different and experimental.
This little weird short stop motion Pokemon show doesn’t feel on brand. That’s soemthing that kinda makes me now like it but at the same time it’s what makes me like it. It’s so refreshing. It’s this redesign that makes the designs of the pokemon look so cute. It really reminds me of the early days of Pokemon when they could try different art styles and go off model to different.
Another thing it reminds me of is Pokemon TCG art work which also went through different art styles including clay. Not to mention the summer island aesthetic. It feels like it could all come from one promo set for the trading card game. Say whatever it might be it’s full of soul.
Only 4 episodes and they ranger from about 14 minutes to about 20, so they’re rather short and it’s a short series. It goes by fast which is not necessarily bad since the show is a bit boring. It might be very comfy and definitely cute but the little troubles they find are just not enough to keep anyone engaged, they’re just small excuses to look at the stop motion animation.
Even though it feels very western in appearance you can really feel how japanese the show is. Nothing happens and each episode is about finding who they really are. WIth Pokemon just how they should be like, it’s simple and it works. It’s comfy even if it doesn’t leave much to talk about.
Apparently there’s a second season coming so I’ll update the article if it ever comes out.
