Masters of the Universe Revolution Revelation Reboot

I was curious to check out this Masters of the Universe reboot, it seemed interesting but thought I needed to know the franchise a bit more since this was almost billed as a sequel series to the original. It seems to be its own thing so I ended up watching it. This seemed like the reboot the franchise needed as it gave us a more interesting take and I liked that it removed the He-Man from the title. I guess I’ll call it the MOTU R since both seasons are titled with an R.

Revelation
We get such an epic intro, you get hooked from the beginning with that quick rundown of the story and what looks like a vignette of the toy artwork which is fantastic. I like the character designs, they feel like an updated version of what I’d think the original show was meant to look. The setting already has too much of the 80s show, it seems far too cheesy of a world. Makes sense given the origins but hard to take too seriously,

It seems like something out of another era, like pure delight, something I can’t quite comprehend but would’ve understood if i had been born at the right time. I could’ve seen this as awesome but I just don’t understand it enough to appreciate it, something lost to just that one generation that can fully comprehend it. It’s a solid start but the next episode is far less interesting, the new Teela seems too over-the-top with her design and I mean I like it but I can udnerstand people disliking it, feels too “2020sh current era when you have this fantasy world.. The flashbacks to previous adventures help since the present day drags. It made me want a Skeleton Warriors reboot, in fact i can see how much more it was inspired by He-man now.

I don’t mind the non He-man stories but I’m not big on the guy so take that in mind, it’s an interesting show.. The second part is kind of odd since you do feel like He-Man is absent. Not a fan of so many senseless deaths for shock value. It feels like a DC crossover killing c-list heroes, but it kinda feels disrespectful. Seducing skeletor with sex and he kisses ? ugh worst part in the show. Part 2 isnot lyn heavy, just story heavy. I still want more flashbacks since it’s the best parts. He-man is weird in general and it’s silly to see skeletor act like a scaredy cat against Evillyn. I do like her upgrade but they wrote her poorly. This is where the show is gets bad and the ending does feel a bit BS, I’m not even part of the fandom and felt like it just wasn’t written for htem, clearly a lice an dwap.

Revolution
Why is skeletor a jobber, they try to make him silly and scary at the same time, it doens’t work. I don’t like now that we have too much He-man, hes too silly in concept, he takes me out of the story. Teela as the sorceror, is boring, black orko is boring too. This series has an identity problem doesn’t know what it wants to be, more serious, but it has too many links to the sillier show, the mood doesn’t match and there is a heavy agenda that doesn’t help the plot. It’s not a different show but this season was He-Man focused which is what most people were asking for. The writing is the same which honestly wasn’t bad.

The lore dump is a lot of fun, I like the exploring of the lore of He-man far more than the actual he-man adventures they tell, odd. Love the lore dumps and they get me excited for what is next int his universe even if it ended. I would’ve loved to see She-Ra here eventually. I think this show was neither a great sequel nor a great reboot, it’s its own thing in general. It actually got dragged down by trying to be more like the original cartoon when it should’ve been its own thing from the beginning. I would’ve loved a season 3.
