Dinosaurs the TV Show by Disney and Jim Henson can be such a difficult show to search for and talk about with such a generic name. It should’ve been called The Sinclair Dinosaur’s or something of the like. You can’t even call it just Disney’s Dinosaurs since they have a movie by that name. Nevertheless, we’re here to discuss this great show and why it was so great. Often dismissed as just a Simpsons rip-off and sure it’s another disfunctional family but it’s very different and as a kid I saw it more of a modern Flintstones and it’s in a way a reverse-Flintsontes not that it’s copying it’s its own show.
The costumes are so well made, they look movie more so than TV quality. They also had a agreat way to reuse the costuems for characters with the Unisaur costumes. The sets were all great and original and in a way remind me of the live action Flintstones movie. The suits have so much expression that they are able to convey emotion rather well. Entertaining for kids and adults. Apparently it was a very expensive show with 1 million budget per episode but that sounds about right since it shows on the actual umm. show.
Earl is the dumb father like Homer but he’s very different really. Unfair that the Simpsons made fun of them. Baby Sinclair is annoying but yet lovely, I can’t hate him. He does evolve over the time of the show as well. They do make fun of themselves for being like the Simpsons as well. Soem of the jokes repeating do get old but I like them. Robbie being the too rebellious but really he was more of a geek and the balanced brain of the family. Ethyl the grandma is annoying but she has some good episodes that make up for it. Fran the mother when she’s used well is great but she’s likely the worst handled character. Charleene is great and coudl’ve been used more, fat all about herself, works that she is selfish and a not theb rightest a refreshing take.
Other characters include Roy and Monica which are usually graet, BP Richfield who is always entertaining. The world Universe rules in general get contradicted a lot like how people get jobs or find a mate for example, they’re the issues of one episode and then they seem to work just like the real world since they forgot about it. Racism and sexism often get mixed into one analogy and stuff like that.
The show has great dialogue, it’s witty and adult without it being too overboard, well perhaps a bit. There’s great commentary that works even today and it can get annoying when they give too many ‘winks’ implying they’re a smart show when it was not needed but I can overlook it since it was indeed a smart show, they just didn’t have to show off about it. It’d be considered a PC show by many nowadays and be bashed just for that. They don’t hold back but I think what’s grat is most would agree with most of the messages. Event he regular more filler episodes tend to be great, there’s very few misses in the entire run which is only 4 seasons but that made it to 65 episodes which was more than enough. But yes the last season did have more filler stinkers and it seemed to be running out of great ideas. So many classic episodes.
Earl should not have been as involved in the finale, he was dumb but had morals not that negligent and please no more clickbait on that episode. .Baby sinclair ind eep fear of being eaten..I seem to remember a caveman episode no one knows mentioend in the one episode of why they were busy and I seem to remember it but it’s not there, is that my own mandela effect? sorry just rambling. It does get a bit too preachy at times. Overall a true classic with a classic run.
