I don’t know if it was more of a thing in the 90s to release albums of shows, I can’t say I ever owned any of them or saw them having any relevancy but there does appear to be plenty from The Simpsons and even Jim henson’s Disney Dinosaurs had Big Songs. This isn’t an OST or anything just songs from the actual suit actors. Released in 1992 as a casette tape and CD featuring most of Sinclair cast. It somehow has 12 tracks though it doesn’t last long at around 34 mins in length.
Let’s start with the music video playing on dinosaur MTV D-TV featuring the new music video for i’m the baby gotta love me official music video. It has an intro with a comedy skit with Baby Sinclair arguing with the tv. the music video features baby sinclair in a band. Some original footage of the cast singing the song and christmas sweater. I remember they used to play this all the time. The chorus is catchy the rest is amusing the first time you watch it not much after that. I don’t see why this couldnt be in continuity.
The songs features the actual cast singing for the most part. This is actually still somewhat of a new concept to me to understand why anyone would want this but it’s a thing. Each song is basically just about the basic personalities and character traits or relationships that the characters form the Dinosaurs show have. No new ground here, like the baby being rebellious and Charlene singing about being a girl. Because of the time it makes sense but the CD sounds too 80s, for some reason I always saw the show more of a mid 90s thing but it is much older than that, I guess I just caught re-runs. Some songs are just mediocre, some just bad, some decent. the songs are overproduced and not great, the singing vioces don’t sound like the characters too much either and seem like not great immitators but it is them apparently. Here’s some quick reviews of each track.
I’m a Dinosaur (I Can Do Whatever I Want) – Baby Sinclair – This one is ok
In a Perfect World – Charlene Sinclair – parody song it’s meh
I Wanna Be King – Robbie Sinclair, Spike – cringe just bad
Grandma’s Comin’ – Earl Sinclair – It’s ok.
Stone Age Bayou – Monica DeVertebrae – surprisingly ok
I’m the Baby (Gotta Love Me) – Baby Sinclair the only ‘good song’, no skit intro here.
Coldblooded Guy – B.P. Richfield – funny,
He’s a Lizard – Fran Sinclair, Ethyl Phillips – bad
Poor Slobs with Terrible Jobs – Earl Sinclair, Roy Hess, B.P. Richfield – feels very disney ride song
Eon After Eon (A Dinosaur Love Song) no, just no
Be a Herbivore – Refrigerator Creatures, Earl Sinclair alright, not bad
Snoozin’ Time – Fran Sinclair – soothing, wtf but soothing
I like that it exists although I can’t say it’s particularly great or I really ever want to listen to it again. Just the main single and that’s mostly for nostalgia purposes.
