The Nights into Dream Franchise

The Nights into dreams franchise might be one of Sega’s best franchises and yet it basically only has 2 games in the main series.. Except it actually does have more games that you might not be familiar with. It’s a rather confusing history. We’ll take a look at all the special releases, cameos and mini games. Nights vibes are just on a different level.

Nights into dreams, the original game for the Sega Saturn that even came out with the 3D Controller. Christmas Nights, two level holiday themed expansion released as a demo disc of sorts having games reformatted for the demo version but also that change weather and themes depending on the calendar. As the title suggests there’s a christmas one but its far from the only holiday featured in it. In a way its like a small expansion pack..

The orignal game got a PS2 Remake that is for the most part a faithful port of the 32 bit saturn with improved draw distance segasaturn dream. And it also includes a brand new dream replacing 2d sprites with 3d models, new textures, new everything even if the same game, a visual remake but you can play both versions. An HD PC Remake release which is a direct port the PS2 one, with upscale textures and christmas Nights content. Some say washed out colors and dead zones in controls but solid.,

Tiger the company that made LCD games actually had 3 different Nights games, and they appear to be different games but its hard to tell, info suggests they’re the same however. It was featured in Premiere series, also in pocket arcade line, and finally in the R-Zone line.

Journey of dreams was the sequel that had been planned since the Saturn era and it finally came out on the Wii featuring similar motion controllers. But just a generation before you had Nights Score Attack, a downloadable game that is just a short Nights gameplay you downloaded from Phantasy Star Online Ep I&II or Billy Hatcher. The proof of concept worked, sadly no GBA full game ever came out.

Besides that Nights has been a playable character in a couple of games including Sega Superstars Nights which is a PS2 eyetoy game where you fly around., Sega Superstars tennis as a playable character. Sonic and Sega all starts racing and the sequel transformed had him as a character and so did Billy hatcher and the giant egg

In fact in a way you could say that Nights just might be a part of the Sonic universe in canon.

Nights into dreams is just one of those franchises that has so much potential, it can be artsy, dreamy, crazy, fun. It’s a shame Sega hasn’t done much with it, but even with the little that exists, it can always be fun to join this universe.
