I’m always searching for movies that deal with Santa’s origins since I’m not a fan of the whole “Santa is not real but he is” stories that usually dominate the story. For as big as Christmas is there always seems to be a huge lack of Santa Claus movies in the holidays, there are a lot of Christmas movies released but not many that are of Papa Noel himself. Good old St. Nick deserves some attention too. Thankfully we got the Christmas Chronicles which feel like the 2010s response to the Santa Clause movies.
Christmas Chronicles
The movie starts a bit ifferent with car theft, this took me by surprise as I went in blidn not knowing anything about the movie and the ilm goes a differen direction than I expected it to. This helped keep the movie fresh to me. I like the look they gave Santa here, I’m a fan of the traditional look but this redesign definitely felt appropriate. It’s not the first time Pere Noel is arrested which is weird but I’ll try not to judge. This one is a different type of Xmas movie but I mean this in a good way.
This movie is full of imagination and a true modern Xmas film. The elves get a cute design. In general I like the idea that Sant is real here despite taking place in a far more modern setting. It giv a great Christmas feel that leaves you with the right mood for the holiday. I woudln’t say it’s my favorite but it deserves its spot as a Santa movie.
Christmas Chronicles Part Two
I didn’t know this movie needed a sequel but here it is and it’s not just 2, but Part Two as if it was continuing the story. In a way that’s true but not really, both are basically stand alone movies. I notied that Mexico is featured a lot int he duology. The cast returns in this movie but I feel that wasn’t the bes idea, perhaps a new cast of characters should’ve been used. The plot overall is silly and a downgrade to the original. It’s a Santa revenge story like the ones in the Santa Clause Trilogy.
In fact I keep mentioning that despite being a very different movie they both go or the origin of the character and later just expand on the Santa lore with random adventures that feel nothing like the first movie. We get a revenge story which is ok but the thematic is very different fromt he original. I do like the Elf language they have. I can’t deny the target audience and well I’m sure the target audience enjoyed the sequel as much as the original movie.
Christmas Chronicles Part Three
Sadly a third movie did not happen despite the first two movies being big hits on Netflix. The actors seemed on board on doing another one and while I can’t say there’s a huge need for one, I do think it would’ve been nice to have seen a these characters one more time. It’d be even sillier if they continued with a third movie and I guess I can understand why they stopped. Though I would’ve liked one even if it had been on a lower budget and even more kid friendly.
It was a different Santa Clause for a new generation and it woudl’ve been nice to see. Event hen with two movies I think there’s enough for fans to revisit, they aren’t amazing Xmas classics but they scratch the itch for something new. Like the Santa Clause films the first movie feels more of a general for everyone christmas story with santa and more kid oriented sequels.
