Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? is better than Netflix’s cartoon
Looking back on..

Thanks to Netflix the world’s greatest thief Carmen Sandiego is back on the spotlight which she hadn’t really had since the 90s. What started as a computer game which received various sequels it also ended up getting various spin-offs, from two ame shows: “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?” and “Where in time is Carmen Sandiego?” to an animated series, and what better way to show appreciation than with a quick review / overview of the 90’s cartoon “Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?”.

We should first talk about the opening which is super catchy and there’s a reason for that since it’s actually a modern version with lyrics of Mozart’s “Singt dem grossen Bassa Lieder”. They really did a good job that this was some sort of crazy quest to find this one person who keeps outsmarting them all in the intro. Since it’s a song that you’ve heard so much in life it means that you already feel familiar with the show even if it’s your first time. You’ll never be as excited to start an edutainment show as you will with this opening; Sorry Magic School Bus. Go ahead and listen:

Why the Magic School Bus Opening is the gr.. CARLOS!

Why the Magic School Bus Opening is the gr.. CARLOS!
Video Classic

The Magic School Bus celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016 and while I may have missed it, it’s never too late to celebrate. It will be getting a new show as The Magic School Bus 360. So in honor of this let’s take a look at the original opening to the cartoon.

It’s quite a memorable theme song as it is catchy and the animation follows the lyrics to the song which are below. I wouldn’t say it’s a great song but it doesn’t have to be, it’s not an epic adventure show but more of a fun educational show that for some reason we watched.

What we know about Nick’s Rise of the TMNT

What we know about Nick’s Rise of the TMNT
Rampant Speculation

Lately we’ve had a few Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles announcements, the first was that Platinum Dunes’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wouldn’t get a third entry which is a shame since I wanted to see more of that unvierse, more recently we got the sad news that the 2012 Nick CG show which apparently is now renamed as Tales of the TMNT, was going to be cancelled after the fifth season. This was also a bit upsetting since I felt that incarnation could’ve told a few more stories. But with death came rebirth as they also announced a new Ninja Turtles show called Rise of the TMNT which meant that Viacom was not done with the franchise and I don’t think this will be another The Next Mutation..

After the sale of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Viacom I had always been afraid of the long term plans for the franchise. I knew in the short term we’d finally get a movie and a new show not to mention a bunch of licensed goodies. but what would happen after the franchise started to wane like it usually does in cycles? Unlike Mirage who could just reboot the turtles after a waiting a few years; Viacom could very easily put it in its vault like Disney does to its older franchises. Viacom has plenty of Nickelodeon IP’s and it does absolutely nothing with them. We’re talking big name franchises like Rugrats so it’s not unprecedented to think they would do the same with the Ninja Turtles after they made a return on their profit. We have indeed seen Viacom be more open to reviving their older stuff lately but there was nothing for sure for TMNT so it was nice to have the announcement that a new show awaits for us. But what exactly is the new show Rise of the TMNT going to be?

Do the Mario & the Nintendo Dance Super Mario Bros Super Show

Do the Mario & the Nintendo Dance Super Mario Bros Super Show
Video Classic

Do the Mario was the outro / ending theme of the Super Mario Bros Super Show but what makes it really memorable is at the end of the episode as the credits rolled professional wrestler Lou-Albano who portrayed Mario in the live aciton segments danced goofily to the mario theme while singing and telling us to “do the Mario”.

I don’t know exactly what it is but there’s something special about it as this wasn’t a show I ever watched as a kid and only got to see it for the first time in my late teens when the DVDs of the show came out and yet they felt nostalgic and magical in a way that I shouldn’t have felt for something I never watched. So let’s go ahead and take some time to “Do the Mario”. Watch the video here and you can find the lyrics below.
