Does Valentine’s Day exist in the Pokemon World? It does and well let’s go into detail about Valentine’s Day since it has a lot of history in Pokemon. Perhaps not the way you intended, so let’s celebrate this Valentine’s Day Pokemon style. Let me be clear, as much as Misty is the romantic type and there are plenty of fanfics of her with Ash,and fan Pokemon merchandise for Valentine’s. We are going to only cover official products, references or anything that is canon to the Pokemon Universe. So let me walk you through it.
We have to begin by talking about cards, not Pokemon TCG but Valentine’s Day cards. As this has been the most prominent item available almost every year the franchise has existed. I was able to find evidence of pretty much every generation getting their own sets of cards. You can also tell the level of lazyness from the different eras, sometimes they’re just generic cards, sometimes they put more thought into them and have some overused puns that are relevant, and only sometimes did they really do their homework and do something entirely Pokemon original.
There are some rarer sets, like the one done specifically to promote Pokepark 2 video game and some are fancier like the newer Hallmark one that even has a Pokeball Pokebox. Featuring Gen 1 nonetheless and of course the most commonly used phrase is “I choose You”. I also find it curious how all the boxes include 30 some odd cards for the classmates and 1 for the teacher.
It doesn’t stop there as the official Pokemon site has more than once made available Valentine’s Day activities and printable stuff over the years. They always offer holiday related stuff especially for the big ones like Christmas and Halloween. But they don’t forget about the smaller holidays. It’s worth noting the official sites usually always talk about Valentine’s Day and make a post about it even if only mentioning semi-related stuff like cards, episodes etc that are like the holiday.
But let’s get to the reason everyone is here: Official Pokemon Lingerie. That’s right this isn’t some cheap knock off being sold online. The Pokemon Company has offically sold Pokemon themed lingerie and undergarments. This wasn’t a one time thing or done a long time ago. They’ve actually worked with various companies, specifically Yummy Mart & Peach John. The latter working with them in more than one occasion.
It’d be a bit boring to go over every single thing they made, but usually they were themed with a different Pokemon, Pikachu being the most common one to use. You would have different type of sleepware as well as bras, bralette’s and panties. Some are more subtle than others, but in general they are all classier than what you’ll find on unofficial ones.
Now the only game that has explicitly mentioned Valentine’s Day is PokemoN Go. Although they don’t seem to have any specific Pokemon with Valentien’s Day cards or anything like that. Though they do usually feature specific events where you can get some love themed Pokemon which mostly means Pink or couple Pokemon. The app Pokemon Masters EX or who can forget when they changed their name to #PokemonMasterSex officially have had Palentine’s Day event as well. Only friends with that holiday even if there might be some benefits of surprises.
But as you can see there are plenty of official references to Valentine’s Day in Pokemon. They make tons of merchandise exclusive for the holiday including plushes, candy since it’s mostly what Japanese trade in those days and of course official artwork to go along with it. The Pokemon Company embraces the holiday.
But what about canon in an actual Pokemon Continuity? Well I guess the anime and most manga adptations have not covered it, but in general they do not cover holidays. However there is one manga that not only covered Valentine’s Day, it covered it in multiple stories over the years and that’s the Magical Journey Pokemon Manga. So yes, it is canon even in a story set in the Pokemon world.
But we’ve gone long enough and well it’s Valentine’s Day, so I’ll just mention that there are some official pink bed sheets which seem appropriate enough for today. Make good use of them Pokemon Master. No not with the life sized Gardevoir pillow!
