The Adventures of Pete and Pete has aged like fine wine

The Adventures of Pete and Pete has aged like fine wine
Looking back on..

The Adventures of Pete and Pete was a staple for Nickelodeon in the early 90s which I guess most of us watched day after day and enjoyed. The show isn’t that long and I can’t find any information on why it was cancelled but there’s just something special about the show that stays in your mind. I loved it as a kid but looking back on it now was it really any good?

Before it was ever a show it started off as a series of shorts that are about a minute long with two specials being about 5 minutes. It’s actually somewhat hard to find these shorts and I was only able to watch about half of them. They really do feel like in the show even if only a minute long. Everyone from the show is much younger and Ellen is actually featured alongside Pete and Pete in the intro. Many of the things from the TV show like origins of stuff are actually from these shorts so its weird they didn’t keep airing them or bundled them as a special. You can also see some dialog and ideas that later became full episodes.

The Magic School Bus 1994 Cartoon is still great edutainment

The Magic School Bus 1994 Cartoon is still great edutainment
Looking back on..

I’ve written about the Magic School Bus a few times before but I’ve never talked about the actual show besides that it had an amazing theme song but now with a new show it seems right time to look back at the original cartoon.

Scholastic was a powerhouse back in the 90s and this TV show is one of the things that came out of it. Based on the children’s book where a freaky teacher teaches science through field trips using a magical bus that actually takes them to the source of the topic being taught so they can learn it through first hand experience. The bus’ transformations are pretty cool as it is to see them go all these places that it makes the edutainment part of the show fun.

2 Must watch French Animated films: Avril et le Monde truqué & Ma vie de courgette
Looking back on..

I am trying to learn French so I try to go out of my way and find stuff to watch in French, so far this year I was able to catch two animated French films in theaters thanks to special international screenings that they’ve had. Luckily for me both were good films and left me … Read More “2 Must watch French Animated films: Avril et le Monde truqué & Ma vie de courgette” »

The Tick Cartoon & Live Action series are so SPOON Oh my!
Looking back on..

The Tick is a local comic book stores mascot that somehow became popular enough to end up getting a cartoon in the 90s and reaching a big audience. Later it got a more adult oriented live action sitcom show which was liked but didn’t have great ratings. If you’re not familiar with The Tick, both shows are a bit different even if they still remain true to the same idea. Let’s take a look back at the animated and live action shows.

The basic premise of The Tick is that Arthur quits his job as he decides to become a superhero and this is where he meets the Tick who just arrived to The City since he is looking for a new city to protect. We get to meet other superheroes who also live in the city and see that life is not so easy for the spandex wearing peeps.

Death Note 2017 Live Action movie become great at the end Netflix

Death Note 2017 Live Action movie become great at the end Netflix
Looking back on..

The American Live Action Death Note movie on Netflix has been causing a lot of controversy and already has this negative stigma from the press and fans. I decided to give the movie a shot without having any previous bias against it and see how it held up as I’m sure the general consensus will be to bash it no matter what so it already had a tough fight ahead of it before anyone even saw it. As I watched it I didn’t want to compare it directly and would be open to changes if it.

Even without being a purist and thinking that the anime has many problems this movie does mess a lot of things up. There’ll be some light spoilers but nothing huge. Light’s character is different but for the most part I don’t think it breaks the character too much, his biggest flaw is how stupid and careless he is, even by normal person’s standard and not Light. Ryuk was handled well for the most part though his introduction was a bit over the top and I would’ve preferred if he was used more subtly.

Ranma 1/2 Complete Series, Movies, OVAs, Everything looked back

Ranma 1/2 Complete Series, Movies, OVAs, Everything looked back
Looking back on..

Ranma 1/2 in the 90s became a gateway drug of sorts to fans in America since it was one of the first popular VHS titles that you could get with three episodes each since anime was still in its infancy. The show was also quite popular in all of Latin America and Europe where anime was already in the boom period pretty much everywhere else. Was it a great show or just a product of its time?

I loved it as a kid and most of my waifus came from this show as it came at the right time for me to be able to appreciate what was being shown as well as fully appreciate the humor. After watching it all I can say it is just as good as I remember if not better.

Karate Kid Sequels, Remakes and cartoons – Oh My!

Karate Kid Sequels, Remakes and cartoons – Oh My!
Looking back on..

We took a look back at the original Karate Kid Trilogy and they really deserve their spot in pop culture. Not to mention in classic martial arts films even if they’re not really fight or choreograph heavy. Now it’s time to go through all the other sequels, remakes and shows that the franchise had over the years. We’re only missing the Youtube Red show which is also a sequel but we’ll take a look back at it eventually as well.

The Next Karate Kid
This is another movie that gets a lot of hate like Part III but I also found it better than what I expected. At least in this movie we get a new Karate Kid, this movie definitely looks like a 90s version of the original so its interesting to see it that way instead of comparing it. Hilary Swank does a decent job and her training is interesting. The bad guy seemed a little too evil for the sake of being bad but so did the other sequels so I can’t complain too much about it.
