First Wakfu cartoon Revival

Wakfu Season 1 and 2 were cult classics but things slowed down after that and it wasn’t until a successful KickStarter campaign for an English dub that the series got a second wind of life since part of the campaign was getting new OVAs and that lead to Netflix wanting to stream the show and an eventual season 3. With Wakfu’s uncertain future let’s take a look at this second wave of adventures that we got with this revival. As with the original show and the spin-offs I watched the original French version of the show which I prefer overall.

The Quest for the Six Dofus Eliatropes – Book 1: The throne of ice Book 2: Ush Book 3: Dragon Mountain

Despite only being three 40 minute OVAs and feeling like a side story in an anime this story is definitely important in the Wakfu canon. Not only that but all the random world building that this mini series does has always been a part of the Wakfu / Dofus universe and doesn’t only help make sense previous stories and bring it all together but also sets up the later adventures. We see how our heroes have evolved since the last time we saw them and things haven’t remained in the status quo for example Tristepin and Evangelyne have kids now and get married, in that order.

When cartoons get dubbed they normally change the lyrics to the opening songs as well. Today sounds like a good day to take a look at three different cartoons and their respective french intros that they had. You’ll also find the lyrics below each video as well as a translation to the lyrics in case you want to follow along and practice your French.

Tortues Ninja (Générique TV – FR 1987)

is really quite something, while using the same beat of the original and animation the lyrics take a whole different spin that tells a slightly different take on them and finding more similarities with the Mirage comics version of the TMNT than the more kid friendly cartoon would have. They’re avenging Splinter against their fatal enemy the Shredder, they are authoritarian and make the law, the turtles are “hellish” and Kowabunga is not a catchphrase but their battle cry. Jeeze, the opening makes me want to check this interpretation of the show instead of just the regular old cartoon.

Looking back on..

When I watch a something I like to watch everything ever made for it which can cause problems many times and it did when I watched Wakfu and became a fan of it. I researched and saw that there was another animated show in the Wakfu universe called Dofus aux trésors de Kérubim and even a movie Dofus Book I: Julith.

It was a bit hard to find any info on it and if you asked fans of Wakfu they would dismiss the show as it being bad and not worth watching besides the first two episodes and the movie. But is it really that bad of a show? I had to watch it for the above reasons anywho so were the general opinions of the show correct?

Le Coin Français, Looking back on..

When Wakfu came out it quickly became a cult hit and it had a small but excited fan base that shared it around and recommended it. Hailed as the revival of French animation I was curious to check it out but put off that it was based on a video game that I had no intention of ever playing. So how exactly is Wakfu? Is it actually any good? Well let’s take a look at the first two seasons that started the franchise.

Wakfu is one of those rare treats that come out of nowhere and deliver. What we have here is a very polished show with not only beautiful animation but an extremely interesting world and a large memorable cast of characters. The show does constant world building which if you are familiar with other Wakfu media you’ll be able to dwell deeper into other aspects of the Wakfu world. I was amazed by how unique and fun this world is and just want to see more of it.
